Fine & Penalty Points For Worn Tyres

Although it’s already an offence to drive any vehicle with worn or defective tyres, there’s now going be a fine of €80, along with 2 penalty points endorsed on the licence on payment of the fine for commission of the offence, or 4 penalty points following conviction in the courts.

The new regulations took effect from yesterday, 17th April 2016. As Tyreland have posted about previously, a recent report by the RSA (‘Pre-Crash Report on Vehicle Factors in Fatal Collisions’) faulty tyres were found to be the most significant in-vehicle factor in fatal collisions, & that such factors played a role in one in 8 fatal crashes between 2008 & 2012.

This prompted the RSA along with Minister for Transport, Paschal Donohoe and the An Garda Síochána to launch a major tyre safety awareness campaign. The Road Safety Authority have urged drivers to have their car tyres checked once a month at a garage. Article Source: www.rsa.ie Sooner or Later you’ll use Tyreland!
