Hankook to equip VW’s ID.4 electric SUV with Ventus S1 evo 3 EV tyres.

Hankook broadening its OE fitment range

Premium tyre maker Hankook is once again expanding its original equipment (OE) tyre range. The brand announced that their Ventus S1 evo 3 EV tyres would come factory fitted on the VW’s first electric SUV, the ID.4. By choosing the Hankook Ventus S1 evo 3, VW joined Porsche, Audi, BMW and Nissan, which are already using Ventus S1 evo 3 as the OE fitment on their selected vehicles..

Before the public announcement, VW previously tested a prototype of the Ventus S1 evo 3 EV on the VW study ID. Crozz, the vehicle on which design the ID.4 is based. Depending on the variant of the ID.4, these tyres will be available in 18-21 inch sizes. The twin-engine ID.4 GTX will be equipped with 20″ and 21″ tyres, while the standard ID.4 will be sitting on 18’s and 19’s.

Specifically designed for electric cars.

Hankook’s Ventus S1 evo 3 EV is specifically designed to fit electric vehicles. This lightweight tyre is offering minimal rolling resistance to maximise the vehicle’s range without compromising on safety. Hankook developed a high-performance fibre, used as a double-layered in the carcass of a Ventus S1 evo 3 tyre, making it stable and more than capable of carrying the weight of the full size SUV like VW ID.4.

While minimising the rolling resistance, Hankook optimised the grip to match the needs of the very high torque outputting electric vehicles.

Hankook Sealguard Technology

ID.4 variants equipped with 19″, 20″ and 21″ tyres, in addition to the already mentioned fuel saving and safety benefits, will also come with the Hankook Sealguard technology layer. In the rare case of a tyre puncture, the sealguard automatically seals penetration up 5mm in diameter in the tyre tread area. This feature allows you to continue your journey and eliminates the need for a new tyre where a nail or a screw penetrates the sealed tyre area.

Another advantage of the Sealguard tyre is that you no longer need to carry a spare wheel in the boot, meaning less weight (better range) or more cargo space if required. Nevertheless, the dangerous attempts to fit the spare wheel on the side of the busy road.
