Top five Netflix series every car lover should watch

If you are a car aficionado, then some Netflix series are not to be missed. In fact, there are so many to choose from it can be hard to know where to start. To make things easier, we’ve compiled a list of the top five best car based series available on Netflix right now.

1. Rust Valley Restorers

Hidden in the recreation paradise of Canada’s South Shuswap is one of the most unique car communities in the world: Tappen, British Columbia, better known as “Rust Valley.” You can’t miss it: it’s a junkyard as far as the eye can see, with acres upon acres of old and abandoned cars. But there is more to it than meets the eye. 

At its heart is a remarkable restoration shop run by a team of colourful and charismatic characters who use their impressive skills and experience to restore, trade and sell classic cars, transforming piles of rust into collectable car treasures.

2. West Coast Customs

West Coast Customs was founded by Ryan Friedlinghaus and Quinton Dodson in 1994. Based in California, the automobile repair shop focuses on the customization of vehicles. 

After appearances on TV shows including Pimp My Ride and Street Customs, where the co-founders and their team worked with celebrities such as Shaquille O’Neal and Sean Combs, the brand has gone on to gain a high degree of notoriety and has become a multimillion-dollar business. Off the back of its huge success, it is now the star of its very own series.

3. Car Masters: Rust to Riches

First aired in 2018, Car Masters: Rust to Riches revolves around the crew from Gotham Garage, California, which has built a number of props for movie studios and television shows over the years.

The group, led by Mark Towle, give classic cars modern makeovers in an attempt to raise their values and ultimately earn the company large profits. Each episode takes up one unique project.

4. Formula One – Drive to Survive

This documentary series, produced in a collaboration between Netflix and Formula One, offers a behind-the-scenes look at the drivers and races of the Formula One World Championship.

Fun fact – Producer James ​​Gay-Rees revealed to The Fast Lane Podcast in April 2021 that Drive to Survive had originally been conceived as a series revolving solely around Red Bull Racing before it evolved into a series about F1 in general.

5. Paul Hollywood’s Big Continental Road Trip

Paul Hollywood’s Big Continental Road Trip is a three-part English television documentary series starring English actor, celebrity chef and avid auto enthusiast Paul Hollywood as he explores the cars, drivers, and automotive profiles of three European countries  – France, Italy and Germany – and examines how they align with their nation’s identities and cultures.
